The Hampta Pass Trek is one of Himachal Pradesh's most fascinating and dramatic crossover treks.
Starting from the lush green Kullu Valley and crossing over to the arid, stark landscape of Spiti Valley, this trek offers an exceptional transition in scenery and culture within a few days. At an altitude of 14,100 ft, Hampta Pass sits in the Pir Panjal range and connects the beautiful valleys of Kullu and Lahaul.
Grade: Easy to Moderate. Best Time: Mid-June to Mid-October.

- Drive distance: 16 km (1 hour)
- Trek distance: 2 km (1.5–2 hours)
- Drive through 42 hairpin bends from Manali to Jobra
- Trek begins through pine and maple forests to reach the Chika campsite near a river
- Trek distance: 8 km (5–6 hours)
- Cross beautiful meadows of Jwara, streams, and enter the moraine region
- Set camp at the base of Hampta Pass surrounded by snow-capped peaks
- Trek distance: 7 km (8–9 hours)
- The most thrilling day of the trek
- Steep climb to the pass with panoramic views of the Lahaul side
- Descent to Shea Goru over snow and scree
- Trek distance: 6 km (5 hours)
- Cross glacial streams and descend to the base camp at Chatru
- View of Pir Panjal and Spiti Valley landscapes
- If roads permit, drive to Chandratal Lake (3–4 hours round trip)
- Drive distance: 85 km (6–7 hours)
- Return to Manali by evening with unforgettable memories
